... here's a song that we're singing. C'mon get happy! Don't worry, that's the first, and last, Partridge Family reference I'll make.
Here I am at Columbia Journalism School. I'm in the Masters of Science program, due to get a degree in Journalism in May 2010. I never thought I'd be back in school, especially after I graduated from law school, but here I am.
Turns out, I didn't really enjoy being a lawyer. I wanted to be a writer, a sports reporter who wrote bestselling and critically acclaimed books on the side. So, I gave up a career as a lawyer so that I could chase my dream: To enter a dying profession plagued by layoffs, cutbacks, and institutional inertia that could cause it to destroy itself if the Internet doesn't get to it first. On the scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the smartest thing I've ever done and 10 being an act so stupid and idiotic that I might as cut myself with barbed wire and jump into a shark tank, going to Journalism School would seem like a 14.
Nevertheless, I like being here at Columbia. I like my classes, I like my professors, and I like the work. I'm stressed about landing a job next year, but that makes me no different than the rest of the country. Hopefully, it will all work out. In the meantime, I'm going to use this site to post my work, link to interesting bits of news, talk about sports, and of course, make fun of stuff. It should be an interesting nine months...
