Victor Li is an award-winning multimedia journalist based in Chicago. As an assistant managing editor at the ABA Journal, he covers the business of law and legal technology. He also hosts the Legal Rebels Podcast on Legal Talk Network.
Before joining the ABA Journal, Victor spent more than three years at ALM Media in New York City, reporting for Law Technology News—now Legaltech News—and The American Lawyer.
Prior to embarking on a career in journalism, Victor practiced law in New York City for three years.

History
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Victor graduated from Amherst with a degree in history. He earned departmental honors for his senior thesis, “The Wall Comes Tumbling Down: German Reunification and the End of the Cold War.”
Law
While earning his J.D., he competed on the Moot Court Team, served as an editor for the Journal of International and Comparative Law, and represented indigent victims of domestic violence in civil and family proceedings.
Journalism
He earned his master’s degree in May 2010, writing his thesis on the battle to legalize mixed martial arts events in New York State. Before Columbia, he freelanced as a sports writer and provided live soccer match commentary.
His work has also appeared in

and a little sports anguish.
Victor enjoys writing about music, pop culture, history, sports, and numismatics, among other things. He cheers for– and often gets angry at– the Pittsburgh Steelers and Manchester United.
He lives in Chicagoland with his wonderful family.
